Great Preaching from an Athiest (who eventually committed suicide)

Hobart Mowrer, from "Sin, the Lesser of Two Evils,"

"For several decades, we psychologists have looked upon the whole matter of sin and moral accountability as a great incubus, and acclaimed our liberation from it as epic-making. But at length we have discovered that to be free, in this sense to have the excuse to being sick rather than being sinful, is to court the danger of also becoming lost.

This danger, I believe, is betokened by the widespread interest in existentialism which we are presently witnessing. In becoming a-moral, ethically neutral, and free we have cut the very roots of our being, lost our deepest sense of selfhood, and identity. And with neurotics themselves, we find ourselves asking, who am I, what is my deepest destiny, and what does living really mean?"

The Littlest Sinners

by Jim Elliff & Steve Burchett

If you have ever been to the hospital to see a newborn baby, your first words to the mom were probably not, "What a beautiful little sinner you've given birth to!" However, those words are completely accurate. Not only is the baby a "beautiful" creation of God (cf. Psalm 139:13), but it is also a "little sinner." Children are born sinners. This is why we absolutely must teach the gospel of Jesus Christ to children.

Even those outside of the church are beginning to admit that children are sinners. Dr. Vasudevi Reddy, of the University of Portsmouth's psychology department, studied more than 50 children and conducted interviews with their parents. Even though behavioral experts used to think that a brain was not developed enough to formulate lies until four years old, she discovered that babies actually start lying as early as six months. By the age of two, they are nearly experts at deceiving their parents in order to avoid punishment.

The practical evidence that children are born sinners corresponds with what the Bible teaches about the depravity of man. The letter to the Romans begins with the truth about humanity's utter depravity: First, Paul teaches in Romans 1:18-32 that all Gentiles are unrighteous. Then he describes the unrighteousness of Jews in Romans 2:1-3:8. Finally, he lumps all of humanity together in Romans 3:9-20, declaring that "all are under sin." He says, "There is none righteous, not even one."

A police study on juvenile delinquency got it right when it revealed these findings:

Every baby starts life as a little savage. He is completely selfish and self-centered: he wants what he wants—his bottle, his mother's attention, his playmate's toys, his uncle's watch, or whatever. Deny him these and he seethes with rage and aggressiveness which would be murderous were he not so helpless. He is dirty; he has no morals, no knowledge and no developed skills. This means that all children, not just certain children, but all children are born delinquent. If permitted to continue in their self-centered world of infancy, given free reign to their impulsive actions to satisfy each want, every child would grow up a criminal, a killer, a thief, and a rapist.1

The Bible not only declares that we are sinners, but it says that we are sinners from the start; we come into the world not in Christ but in Adam (cf. Romans 5:12-19). We can all echo David when he said in Psalm 51:5, "Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me." David was not talking about his mother's sinfulness, but his own utterly depraved nature. This is a reality for every child. Everyone is born with a radically depraved heart, spiritually dead in his or her sins (cf. Ephesians 2:1).

In Mark 7:21-22, Jesus said, "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness." The external acts and internal attitudes Jesus lists routinely manifest themselves in our lives, and it is only because of the restraining grace of God that some of these sins have not yet thrived. Like an angry group of bees rising from a hole in the ground upon an unsuspecting person, this list of sinful attitudes and acts describes the ugly swarm of evil that may arise from within the soul of any man and woman, boy and girl.

"Not my baby!" a mom may object. Sadly, it is so. And though the impact of a child's sin upon others is usually not as severe as when an adult sins against another, we must remember that the reason sin is so horrendous is because it is rebellion against God (cf. Psalm 51:4). If a boy kicks a girl in the shin because she won't play on the slide with him at the park, that is a sin against that innocent girl, but it is ultimately against God. Consider how serious it is to sin against God Who is far above all creatures (cf. Acts 17:25). How can we even begin to measure such tragic rebellion?

The depth and severity of our sin is especially revealed in the cross of Christ. If sin were a minor matter, would God have sent Jesus to die for sinners? If it is easily atoned for, like a speeding ticket, then it is illogical that the payment had to be the life of the sinless Son of God. But God did send His Son to die for sinners, and this only magnifies the horridness of sin. We dare not ignore this personally, nor in the lives of our children. We must recognize that if they reject the work of Christ and die in their sins, they will get hell for eternity (cf. John 3:36).

The issue of a child's sinfulness is worthy of so much more than a flippant, "Oh well, kids will be kids. Nobody's perfect!" Our children are among those without an inherent righteousness—they desperately need the righteousness of Christ and the forgiveness of sins that He alone provides, or they will perish! Though our children's sinfulness may nearly drive us insane at times, it should rather motivate us to convey the gospel to them.

Plane Speaking

by Ray Comfort

Two hundred years ago “rational” thinking folks would have mocked you if you spoke of the possibility of massive jumbo jets floating through the air filled with human beings. Any sensible person knew that massively heavy objects couldn't possibly float through the air, as though they were lighter than a feather. They "knew" this because of an invisible law--the law of gravity. But we now know that it is possible for this to take place, because of another law that overcomes gravity. When a certain object moves at a certain speed, it supersedes the invisible law of gravity and enters into another invisible law--the law of aerodynamics. Gravity still remains, but the heavy object breaks free from its influence.

The Bible says that all of humanity is subject to an invisible law-- “the law of sin and death.” That law says that the soul that sins will die. Those who deny that it exists should simply take a trip to a graveyard (they will one day). Universal death proves that law is a reality. However, because of the cross, the Christian breaks free from the law of sin and death. The moment he or she repents and trusts in the risen Savior, they move into the influence of another invisible law. This is a higher law--“the law of life in Christ Jesus.” This is simple to prove. The skeptic needs only to step into the plane. Most don't, because of a closed mind. "For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death" (Romans 8:2).

The Words of Mother Theresa

In a new book, titled, Mother Teresa: Come Be My Light (Doubleday), it is revealed to us that during the last 50 years of Mother Teresa's life of works, she did not feel the presence of God. The book consists primarily of correspondence between Teresa and her confessors and superiors. The letters that were saved against her wishes tell us (in her words) that Christ was "neither in her heart or in the eucharist."

Quote:
"Lord, my God, who am I that You should forsake me? The Child of your Love — and now become as the most hated one — the one — You have thrown away as unwanted — unloved. I call, I cling, I want — and there is no One to answer — no One on Whom I can cling — no, No One. — Alone ... Where is my Faith — even deep down right in there is nothing, but emptiness & darkness — My God — how painful is this unknown pain — I have no Faith — I dare not utter the words & thoughts that crowd in my heart — & make me suffer untold agony."

"So many unanswered questions live within me afraid to uncover them — because of the blasphemy — If there be God — please forgive me — When I try to raise my thoughts to Heaven — there is such convicting emptiness that those very thoughts return like sharp knives & hurt my very soul. — I am told God loves me — and yet the reality of darkness & coldness & emptiness is so great that nothing touches my soul. Did I make a mistake in surrendering blindly to the Call of the Sacred Heart?"

"Please pray specially for me that I may not spoil His work and that Our Lord may show Himself — for there is such terrible darkness within me, as if everything was dead. It has been like this more or less from the time I started 'the work.'"

"What do I labour for? If there be no God — there can be no soul — if there is no Soul then Jesus — You also are not true" are the only two that sound any note of doubt of God's existence. But she frequently bemoaned an inability to pray: "I utter words of Community prayers — and try my utmost to get out of every word the sweetness it has to give — But my prayer of union is not there any longer — I no longer pray."

"I just have the joy of having nothing — not even the reality of the Presence of God [in the Eucharist]." She described her soul as like an "ice block." Yet she recognized Neuner's key distinction, writing, "I accept not in my feelings — but with my will, the Will of God — I accept His will." Although she still occasionally worried that she might "turn a Judas to Jesus in this painful darkness,"

"If I ever become a Saint — I will surely be one of 'darkness.' I will continually be absent from Heaven — to [light] the light of those in darkness on earth," she wrote in 1962. Theologically, this is a bit odd since most orthodox Christianity defines heaven as God's eternal presence and doesn't really provide for regular no-shows at the heavenly feast. But it is, Kolodiejchuk suggests, her most moving statement, since the sacrifice involved is infinite. "When she wrote, 'I am willing to suffer ... for all eternity, if this [is] possible,'" he says, "I said, Wow."

"Jesus has a very special love for you," she assured Van der Peet. "[But] as for me, the silence and the emptiness is so great, that I look and do not see, — Listen and do not hear — the tongue moves [in prayer] but does not speak ... I want you to pray for me — that I let Him have [a] free hand."

Deception or Disciple?

Here are two sobering You Tube Clips to remind us all of the uncanny ability for men and women to be deceived into thinking that they belong to Jesus without any understanding of the very Gospel He preached. Let it be a warning to all of us that emotions, although contributing factors to change, should not be the indicator of conversion, and in Glenn Beck's case, circumstances and miracles do not point to the truth when it contradicts the Word of God. Are you saved? Examine yourself...your eternal destiny may depend on it!

The Iniquity of the Holy Things

by Charles Spurgeon

What a veil is lifted up by these words, and what a disclosure is made! It will be humbling and profitable for us to pause awhile and see this sad sight. The iniquities of our public worship, its hypocrisy, formality, lukewarmness, irreverence, wandering of heart and forgetfulness of God, what a full measure have we there! Our work for the Lord, its emulation, selfishness, carelessness, slackness, unbelief, what a mass of defilement is there! Our private devotions, their laxity, coldness, neglect, sleepiness, and vanity, what a mountain of dead earth is there! If we looked more carefully we should find this iniquity to be far greater than appears at first sight. Dr. Payson, writing to his brother, says, "My parish, as well as my heart, very much resembles the garden of the sluggard; and what is worse, I find that very many of my desires for the melioration of both, proceed either from pride or vanity or indolence. I look at the weeds which overspread my garden, and breathe out an earnest wish that they were eradicated. But why? What prompts the wish? It may be that I may walk out and say to myself, 'In what fine order is my garden kept!' This is pride. Or, it may be that my neighbours may look over the wall and say, 'How finely your garden flourishes!' This is vanity. Or I may wish for the destruction of the weeds, because I am weary of pulling them up. This is indolence." So that even our desires after holiness may be polluted by ill motives. Under the greenest sods worms hide themselves; we need not look long to discover them. How cheering is the thought, that when the High Priest bore the iniquity of the holy things he wore upon his brow the words, "HOLINESS TO THE LORD:" and even so while Jesus bears our sin, he presents before his Father's face not our unholiness, but his own holiness. O for grace to view our great High Priest by the eye of faith!

If You Were to Die Today

If you were to die today, are you 100% sure that you would enjoy eternal life in the presence of God? If, for any reason, you are unsure about your eternal destiny, I urge you to carefully consider what the Bible has to say. In a nutshell, the Bible explains that you are a sinner because you have willfully lived in ways that are not pleasing to the God of this universe. Because God is fair and just in everything He does, your sin has placed you in danger of being punished forever in a place called hell. However, the fair and just God who created you is also infinitely loving. He does not desire for anyone to perish in hell, but for all people to receive forgiveness. Because of this great love with which He has loved the world, your just and loving Creator decided, before time began, to send His Son, Jesus Christ, into the world. Jesus’ purpose in coming to earth was to live a perfect life, die a costly death, and then miraculously rise from the dead. All of this was done to accomplish what you could not. The Scriptures explain in John 3:16, “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever would believe in Him would not perish [in hell], but have everlasting life [in heaven].”

You can experience God’s forgiveness and plan for your life. The Bible explains that the keys to receiving eternal life are repentance and faith. The word “repentance” means to turn away from something. In this case, the Bible speaks of turning away from your sin. In order to receive forgiveness of your sin, you must be willing to turn from it. However, the Bible also explains that you must also be willing to place all of your faith in Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. In order to be saved from your sin and it’s consequences, you must be “born again” by believing in what Jesus accomplished on the cross and then surrendering your life to the Savior, trusting in Christ alone to save you from your sins. This is genuine faith. Much like John 3:16, the Bible also says, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9-10). This is what I hope will happen in your life today. I hope that you will realize that you're are a sinner and in need of Jesus Christ’s saving power. I hope that you will carefully consider the consequences of being found guilty on judgment day, apart from the Savior. I also hope that you will carefully consider the great benefits of placing your life in the hands of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

Athiest's Creed

by Steve Turner

We believe in Marx, Freud and Darwin
We believe everything is OK
as long as you don't hurt anyone
to the best of your definition of hurt,
and to the best of your knowledge.

We believe in sex before, during, and
after marriage.
We believe in the therapy of sin.
We believe that adultery is fun.
We believe that sodomy’s OK.
We believe that taboos are taboo.

We believe that everything's getting better
despite evidence to the contrary.
The evidence must be investigated
And you can prove anything with evidence.

We believe there's something in horoscopes
UFO's and bent spoons.
Jesus was a good man just like Buddha,
Mohammed, and ourselves.
He was a good moral teacher though we think
His good morals were bad.

We believe that all religions are basically the same-
at least the one that we read was.
They all believe in love and goodness.
They only differ on matters of creation,
sin, heaven, hell, God, and salvation.

We believe that after death comes the Nothing
Because when you ask the dead what happens
they say nothing.
If death is not the end, if the dead have lied, then its
compulsory heaven for all
excepting perhaps
Hitler, Stalin, and Genghis Kahn

We believe in Masters and Johnson
What's selected is average.
What's average is normal.
What's normal is good.

We believe in total disarmament.
We believe there are direct links between warfare and
bloodshed.
Americans should beat their guns into tractors .
And the Russians would be sure to follow.

We believe that man is essentially good.
It's only his behavior that lets him down.
This is the fault of society.
Society is the fault of conditions.
Conditions are the fault of society.

We believe that each man must find the truth that
is right for him.
Reality will adapt accordingly.
The universe will readjust.
History will alter.
We believe that there is no absolute truth
excepting the truth
that there is no absolute truth.

We believe in the rejection of creeds,
And the flowering of individual thought.

If chance be
the Father of all flesh,
disaster is his rainbow in the sky
and when you hear:

State of Emergency!

Sniper Kills Ten!

Troops on Rampage!

Whites go Looting!

Bomb Blasts School!

It is but the sound of man worshipping his maker.

10 Reasons to NOT Ask Jesus Into Your Heart

By Todd Friel
Todd Friel is the co-host of The Way of the Master radio.

The music weeps, the preacher pleads, “Give your heart to Jesus. You have a God shaped hole in your heart and only Jesus can fill it.” Dozens, hundreds or thousands of people who want to get their spiritual life on track make their way to the altar. They ask Jesus into their heart. Cut to three months later. Nobody has seen our new convert in church. The follow up committee calls him and encourages him to attend a Bible study, but to no avail. We label him a backslider and get ready for the next outreach event.

Our beloved child lies in her snuggly warm bed and says, “Yes, Daddy. I want to ask Jesus into my heart.” You lead her in “the prayer” and hope that it sticks. You spend the next ten years questioning if she really, really meant it. Puberty hits and the answer reveals itself. She backslides. We spend the next ten years praying that she will come to her senses.

Telling someone to ask Jesus into their hearts has a very typical result... backsliding.

The Bible says that a person who is soundly saved puts his hand to the plow and does not look back because he is fit for service. In other words, a true convert cannot backslide. If a person backslides, he never slid forward in the first place. “If any man is in Christ, he is a new creation.” (II Cor.5) No backsliding there.

Brace yourself for this one: with very few if any exceptions, anyone who asked Jesus into their hearts to be saved…is not. If you asked Jesus into your heart because you were told that is what you have to do to become a Christian, you were mis-informed.

If you have ever told someone to ask Jesus into their heart (like I have), you produced a false convert. Here is why:

1. It is not in the Bible. There is not a single verse that even hints we should say a prayer inviting Jesus into our hearts.

Some use Rev. 3:20. To tell us that Jesus is standing at the door of our hearts begging to come in.

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock.” There are two reasons that interpretation is wrong.

The context tells us that the door Jesus is knocking on is the door of the church, not the human heart. Jesus is not knocking to enter someone’s heart but to have fellowship with His church. Even if the context didn’t tell us this, we would be forcing a meaning into the text (eisegesis). How do we know it is our heart he is knocking at? Why not our car door? How do we know he isn’t knocking on our foot? To suggest that he is knocking on the door of our heart is superimposing a meaning on the text that simply does not exist.

The Bible does not instruct us to ask Jesus into our heart. This alone should resolve the issue, nevertheless, here are nine more reasons.

2. Asking Jesus into your heart is a saying that makes no sense. What does it mean to ask Jesus into your heart? If I say the right incantation will He somehow enter my heart? Is it literal? Does He reside in the upper or lower ventricle? Is this a metaphysical experience? Is it figurative? If it is, what exactly does it mean? While I am certain that most adults cannot articulate its meaning, I am certain that no child can explain it. Pastor Dennis Rokser reminds us that little children think literally and can easily be confused (or frightened) at the prospect of asking Jesus into their heart.

3. In order to be saved, a man must repent (Acts 2:38). Asking Jesus into your heart leaves out the requirement of repentance.

4. In order to be saved, a man must trust in Jesus Christ (Acts 16:31).
Asking Jesus into your heart leaves out the requirement of faith.

5. The person who wrongly believes they are saved will have a false sense of security. Millions of people who sincerely, but wrongly, asked Jesus into their hearts think they are saved but struggle to feel secure. They live in doubt and fear because they do not have the Holy Spirit giving them assurance of salvation.

6. The person who asks Jesus into his heart will likely end up inoculated, bitter and backslidden. Because he did not get saved by reciting a formulaic prayer, he will grow disillusioned with Jesus, the Bible, church and fellow believers. His latter end will be worse than the first.

7. It presents God as a beggar just hoping you will let Him into your busy life. This presentation of God robs Him of His sovereignty.

8. The cause of Christ is ridiculed. Visit an atheist web-site and read the pagans who scoff, “How dare those Christians tell us how to live when they get divorced more than we do? Who are they to say homosexuals shouldn’t adopt kids when tens of thousands of orphans don’t get adopted by Christians?” Born again believers adopt kids and don’t get divorced.

People who ask Jesus into their hearts do. Jesus gets mocked when false converts give Him a bad name.

9. The cause of evangelism is hindered. While it is certainly easier to get church members by telling them to ask Jesus into their hearts, try pleading with someone to make today the day of their salvation. Get ready for a painful response. “Why should I become a Christian when I have seen so called Christians act worse than a pagan?” People who ask Jesus into their hearts give pagans an excuse for not repenting.

10. Here is the scary one. People who ask Jesus into their hearts are not saved and they will perish on the Day of Judgment. How tragic that millions of people think they are right with God when they are not. How many people who will cry out, “Lord, Lord” on judgment day will be “Christians” who asked Jesus into their hearts?

So, what must one do to be saved? Repent and trust. (Heb.6:1) The Bible makes it clear that all men must repent and place their trust in Jesus Christ. Every man does have a “God shaped hole in their hearts,” but that hole is not contentment, fulfillment and peace. Every man’s heart problem is righteousness. Instead of preaching that Jesus fulfills, we must preach that God judges and Jesus satisfies God’s judgment…if a man will repent and place his trust in Him.

If you are reading this and you asked Jesus into your heart, chances are good you had a spiritual buzz for a while, but now you struggle to read your Bible, tithe, attend church and pray. Perhaps you were told you would have contentment, purpose and a better life if you just ask Jesus into your heart. I am sorry, that was a lie.

If you have been preaching that people should ask Jesus into their hearts, I beg you to stop immediately. You will give an account for all the souls you have led astray. Listen to the teaching “Hell’s Best Kept Secret".
